History
The Hookah has been a lasting tradition for over five centuries. It was when the Europeans introduced tobacco, that the elegant glass design was created to 'purify' the smoke in India. The filtering glass base, also known as 'Shisha', quickly became popular among the Middle East and Eastern Asia, as means of smoking tobacco.
The contents placed in the ceramic bowl are usually composed of flavored tobacco which is generally made with tobacco sweetened with flavored molasses. This special preparation allows people to create a multi-flavored sensation for the smoker. To generate the ultimate smoking experience, professional smokers sculpt fresh fruits in the shape of a bowl to pack the flavored tobacco. At Smoke This, we offer: mango, orange, apple, pineapple, and even watermelon fresh fruits.
How the hookah works can be described in a simple manner. After packing the tobacco content into the hookah bowl, a thin metallic layer punctured with small holes is placed on top of the bowl for the heated coals to rest on. As the hookah smoker intakes air through the hookah hose, the heated coals creates smoke from the flavored tobacco and is sucked down the hookah pipe into the base of the hookah to be filtered in the water. For a smoother smoke, people occasionally add ice to the base. The smoke is then passed into the hookah hose that the smoker is breathing through to provide a pleasurable experience.
